Lundy Lane is in the Country Club area of Los Altos., part of Loyola Corners.. The area was first developed by Jesuits, who had hoped to build a college. But, as a result of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake they ran into financial difficulties as pledges dried up. They then sold their 650 acre holding, 155 acres of which went to establish the Los Altos Golf and Country Club. The rest was earmarked for residential development. In anticipation of demand from future college students and staff, railroad tracks had been laid, and the Loyola Corners railroad depot built. Today, the tracks and the depot are gone, but Foothill Expressway is a biker’s paradise.
Los Altos has a small town feel, tree-lined streets. It has award winning schools, a vibrant downtown that hosts many offerings ranging from First Friday musical events, to weekly farmer’s markets, to art walks. Residents enjoy easy access to golf, tennis, swimming, hiking, and of course famous Silicon Valley. In fact, the house where Facebook was incubated, known as “Casa Facebook”, is nearby at 1743 Westbrook Ave. And the “Apple Garage” is at 2066 Crist Dr.
In 1991 the San Jose Sharks opened their first season in their new home, the San Jose Arena. One of their goalies was a young Latvian, Arturs Irbe, whose skills, work ethic and easy manner were such that he soon became a cult figure. During his career “The Wall” garnered a number of honors, among them SJS Player of the Year and membership in the SJ Hall of Fame.
Playing before 17,500 rabid fans is very high pressure, and the setting, the floor plan, the location of 914 Lundy Lane offered a welcome respite. Now relocated and coaching in Europe, Arturs has finally made the decision to sell his beloved California home.
In preparation for sale, the home has undergone a number of upgrades. These include wide plank white oak floors, Thermador and Bosch kitchen appliances, quartz counters. The entire house has been freshly painted in decorator colors, the decks re stained. The three original stone fireplaces have been modernized with stucco elements, and the pool, now surrounded by flagstones, has fresh plaster.
Soaring ceilings, open plan, single level, private setting- no wonder it took the owner decades to finally decide to sell.
